DESCRIPTION

The AUTOVISION Spearhead Project aims to develop a graphene-based image sensor for short-wave infrared (SWIR) radiation, integrated into a suitable camera system for self-driving cars. This project addresses the challenges posed by low visibility conditions, which hinder the reliable deployment of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving systems (ADS).

By collaborating with partners like Aixtron and Veoneer, AUTOVISION seeks to produce complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) graphene quantum dot image sensors, enhancing sensitivity and operational speed for the automotive sector. The project will validate the sensor’s performance over three years, paving the way for safer autonomous driving.

The outcomes are expected to improve collision avoidance systems and contribute to the broader adoption of autonomous vehicle technology, enhancing safety and reliability on the roads.
